Noise when accelerating

    Hello guys,

this is my first post!! i just got a mk1 saxo, what nippy little cars they are! ha

Ive got somthing that's been annoying me with the car..

When i put my accelerate I hear a blowing/deep noise come from around the middle to front end of the car....

The car does have a magnex back box so im not sure if its just that but i thought it must sound more crisp than that!

the noise sounds worse when its in lover gears like its labouring a bit... i think there is some power loss too...

my first thoughts are hole in the exhaust but its comming from more towards the middle/front end.

    cheers

    Niki

Blow in the manifold? Or where the manifold connects to the centre pipe? there are a few places that can blow towards the front.

If you dip the clutch, does the noise go?

yeah only when i accelerate in the lower revs its sounds the loudest until the revs get higher then it dont seem to sound as loud...

when the accelerator isnt pressed theres no sound, changing gear is fine no sound, then i put my foot down and FAAAAAAARRRRRRTTTTTTTTT....

Does sound like a blow somewhere.

    Places to check:

    Manifold where joins head.
Manifold where joins cat (depending on model of car)
    Cat to Centre pipe
    Centre pipe to backbox.

Are you sure it just isn't the backbox though? Mine is loud through 2-3.5k, and then quietens down again after?

i had a mk 1 westy and my downpipe manifold gasket was a problem went though a few of them, when the cars turned on put your hand around the gasket and its you feel blowing against your hand n you will know cos its rather hot theres your answer, gaskets are cheap as think i paid £4 to do mine, if it aint your gasket might be a slight crank in the manifold but defo look around the gasket manifold pal

mines a VTR, its the cat the grated metal box thats just before the downpipe?

also where the backbox is conntected the u-bolt drips fliud BUT i cant really feel and hole as such...

Leave car running then get under and listen, also feel for any air. And get some to rev it and repeat. ^^
