   Get some brake cleaner on there and to clean up the gasket surfaces get a flap wheel (its a wheel with bits of sandpaper on it)

   aqua blasting / vapour blasting makes fucked old carbon'd up gunky stuff new again place near me does it. 15 quid for a block and 20 for a head they wont do it with valves fitted though.

    Looks good stuff in the link in the garage I worked at we used something called GUNK comes in a spray bottle or you can buy a brush on version.Work it in really well then hose off & dry with an airline(if you have 1)
