Which is the best performance for money?

  1. #1
Which mod am I gonna notice most in performance for my money.
Exhaust - full system - which?
New Manifold - if so which?
    Induction kit - Which?
    Lowering - how much? Manafacturer?
  2. #2
depends what performance you want top three will help 0-60 lowering better handling

*lowering* - for looks 60mill, for practicality, 40mill. if you want budget go for gmax or spax. and get the full kit with dampers if your going really low, believe me. when i got my car it was just on springs, with the bar ajusted to match and it was bumpy as fook. you can get dearer kits, 250+ but for what its worth...it really isnt worth it them 2 kits are good enough

*induction kit* - Forced air definatly, pipercross viper or green enclosed induction kit

    *manifold* - GMC 4-1 Manifold

*exhaust* - De-cat pipe with magnex backbox works for me

I wouldnt touch gmax or spax even if they were the only 2 choices as they are probs the worst 2 you can get for a saxo apart from PI. How can you say its not worth spending more than £250 on a suspension kit? it you havent spend about £400 you will have made it worse. Bilstein or Koni with Eibach or custom faulken springs will give you the best handling for your money.

I would say BMC for induction, Viper tends to suffer from heatsoak, Green element is good though.

manifold, as long as its equal length you will see a gain.

again lengths are the key for exhaust.

induction kits are not forced!. they are normally aspirated!.. to have forced iduuction you need to force air into the engine.. I.e a turbo or S/charger.
if you want more power forced indution is your best bet but you will need other mods too!.
its not just a case of strapping a turbo to your manifold and away to go!.
    read previous threads!.

the best 60 quid i spend was on a decat pipe, you can really feel the difference it makes

You can get 'forced air induction kits', thats what the Pipercross Viper is, it takes air from the front of the car and forces it into the engine through the ducting which ensures a flow of cold air. Its just the term of what they call them... But definatly go for forced induction kit...

agreed, enclosed air filter is another name. they are the same thing thou. like i said pipercross viper, or a green enclosed induction kit would be best. thier are others, best just to browse the forum and see what people think. this forum is very helpful simply by using the search feature.

your both wrong there is no such thing as a forced air induction kit, it is physically impossible to create the pressure needed to force air into the engine, it will only suck as much as it needs unless your using a turbo or supercharger to compress and force the air into the engine.

what is the score with a de-cat pipe, when it comes to m.o.t time? pas -fail?? im hearing mixed messages!!!!

100% fail. even if it does pass emissions, it's illegal not to have a cat fitted to a car which is required by law to have one.

Is it actually illegal to decat ur car ? can the old bill pull you up for it ? im actually a little unsure ?

Read seans post. It's illegal not to have a cat fitted. Doesnt stop people doing it though.

just put it back in cum mot time!

strip all the shite out that weighs it down, boot linings, spare wheel, back seats, ice* or u can be sad and take the central locking out, and rear wiper motor too like ive heard sum people doing as they think it looses even more

It would give me great pleasure to, but its not my fault they are to stupid to understand the basic rules of physics.

Fair enough, aint viper induction kits based on ram air induction?

RamAir is a company name not a specific product. and as for your other point about companies calling them forced air kits, it's called a SALES PITCH and they do it because silly little boy racers who don't know any better go out and buy them, beleiving that all that extra air being 'forced' into the engine is giving them an extra 10bhp. Just the same with the famous e-bay resistors. Unfortunately the car tuning/modifying industry is awash with bullshit claims because at the end of the day people want massive gains but dont want to pay for them so they'll believe anything if it sounds good.

well said!.. however i am unfortunatly very skint and cant even afford one of those shitty bollocks resistor things even if they did work.. the best performance for money if you have a 1.1 engine is to buy a bigger engine or better car.. air filters are shite and you probably wont even notice a gain!. it would be cheaper and probably better to by a replacement filter element for your standard air box as that itself is enclosed!. just add a pipe from the intake of that if you want cold air!. i know that BMC are well recommended but like he asked in the begining, best for money..
