Saxo VTS engine swap

I have a 1998 saxo vts and Im worried about the engine, very lumpy sumtimes> still pulls likes a demon but just worried, even having a peak into the oil cap the cams look a bit worn. Anyway my question is, my mate has a nice clean engine sittin with 70K onit, he said 180 for it with everything onit with ECU gearbox.

how would the process go putting it in my car? straight swap or will I have others things to do? ingition ect?

If he's giving you everything including the ecu and loom depending if you need the loom (single plug/multiplug ecu bussiness) you also need the immbolisher box and ignition barrel/key off the same car the engine came out off, or get the ecu unlocked.

the simplest thing would be to just buy a bare engine from the same year as yours then theres no messing about, dont really see why anyone would do it any differently and mess about with looms/pick up rings/imobilisers and all the crap lol

So if my car is a 2000 3 plug, and I can find a 2000 VTS engine 3 plug, it would go straight in?

Well for the price and quality of the engine I hot it might be worth it. how much to get the ecu blocked and who does it?

When was the cambelt replaced on your mates engine? You don`t want to be buying into trouble down the road.

i think you mean 'how much to get the ecu unlocked' lol you wouldnt wnana block/lock it

if the engine is still in the car when you come to buy it they can unlock it for free, all they have to do is start the car up and pull the imobilser out and that unlocks the ecu and then its ready to use in your car

otherwise you have to pay about £50 to get it unlocked

i woulda thought he would change it whilst its standing anyway as it takes about 5 minutes with it out of the car , but who knows
