Just had a quick look on search for this, but couldn't find it (shoddy net keeps cutting out) Just wondering where i'm likely to find the VIN plate on a 98' VTS?
Cheers
Mike.

Open bonnet. Next to where the catch is. Should be there if I remember correctly.

chassis number is stamped on the lip of the bulkhead behind the engine, quite clearly visible. paint code should be on sticker on either the door pillar or painted onto the nearside front suspension strut top.

Paint code is stamped/painted etc into right hand strut mouting point next to brake fluid reservoir as you look at the engine on mk1s and on a sticker on chassis if you open the doors on mk2 - can't remember which side the sticker is though.

if you look in your engine bay, behind the engine, slap bang in the middle of the lip on the scuttle/bulkhead,you'll see a small cut out in the black plastic trim and the number SHOULD be there. Its put there as its an area not prone to accident damage so should never need cutting or replacing.
