seat pre-tension wire - resistors

  1. #1
Looked at threads and they all go on about putting 2ohm's resistors on the wire inplace when i put buckets in.

can some one link me to one?

can i not take the part out of the original seat and ust leave that under the seat ??

The resister is a standard part that can be found in any electrical supplies. There are Maplins shops all over the UK. I have seen people retain there original seat base with belt and mount the new seats to that.

If you are putting harnesses in just be aware that most race/rally belts are not road legal. So you have to retain and use the original belts on the road or get road legal e approved harnesses. Also don't forget to tell you insurance company.

I'm putting reclining buckets in with original seat belt clip attached to both etc. so its literally just a seat swap nothing else, so if i go into maplins and ask for a 2ohm resistor it'll be a few £ and the right one?

    Thanks.

Anyone have a good picture or link of what im getting as theres a good few resistors out there

    *bump* anyone?

Why do you want to hassle with resistors?

Just disconnect them and stuff the plug in the slot in the carpet under the seat. Change the steering wheel for a non airbag one - tape over the dashboard airbag light and jobs a goodun - works for both of my Saxo's.

If im going to do the seats i like to do the job proper so its all working how it should do, not too fond of a new wheel imo.

Already got a key light flashing to sort out, dont need more flashing ones enough ha.

The original seat belt clips are encorporated with the pre-tensioner as one piece, all you need to do is reconnect the wire to the P.T and you're sorted.

If your putting the original seat belt clip in can you not leave it bolted to the pre-tensioner unit. Then bolt the whole unit to the sides of the seats. That way you`ll be able to connect up to the original plugs under the seats.

Not sure if all the models are the same but on my VTS there was nothing "under" the seat - the cable exited a hole in the carpet and was cable-tied to the underneath of the seat and then plugged into the P.T. - as mentioned by Gordon and Steve why don't you just plug it all back in (there's only one plug on each wire) once the P.T.s are bolted to the new seat?

Can't really see the point of resistors if you are wanting to keep the set-up as original as possible with as much working as possible (air-bags, P.T.s etc.)?

Hmm yeah, just had a look and its just a wire from the floor literally held on by like a bit of plastic.. can i just cut that and cable tie it to my seats underneath or do i need the full plastic strip (is this the pretension *wire*)

Yep cut the plastic black clip (not the wire) and cable tie under the new seats - easy peasy

Right had a quick 30 minutes to give it a go so i logically decided to do the passenger one incase of any problems occuring, Bolts came out fine.. Pre-tentioner wire wasnt half held on but cut the clips etc and now the seats in and with original seat belt and wire which is all good! with no airbag light

One issue... i think a few bearings have come out due to the seat leans forward slightly, if you lean forward its got a bit of a wobble, its all bolted in correctly and tight so can i do anything about that or just tell passengers to sit properly as they should be

also, pictures when i've got the drivers in over weekend then ill give to car a clean and wash for progress thread.

    .
Good to hear yuo managed to sort the pretensioner ok.

As for the rocking seat, are you using a sliding runner beneath it or is it solid bolted? If you're using a sliding runner only one of the two sliders might be clipped in place allowing the other side to move a bit if the runners aren't mounted completely parallel.

It has runners underneath, I think there's a few bearings that have come out or something.. if its fully forward or back it doesn't wobble forward/back but if its in the middle it will wobble slightly if sat on the front quarter.. might have to lock it into a position and stick something in bit of manual D.I.Y ha.
