saxo cooling???

  1. #1
have a 2001 furio 67000 miles on it. when driving it takes longer for the temperature needle to rise and warm air flow is at normal but when the temperature displays at just over the half way mark after about five minutes it starts blowing cold air and the cooling fan for radiator is on non stop. levels are all fine.

    any info. is appreciated.

    cheers

    Happy 1st post.

Most likely something simple, like an airlock, so bleed the cooling system.

Other things like water pump and headgasket problems are on the cards, but start with the cheapest, easiest and quickest solutions first

alright cheers mate. aye from northern ireland and always on jon44w and they referred me here. and i can see why now lol.

    how much to replace w/pump?

and (hopefully not) but the cost of changing the head gasket. fairly handy with cars so wud it be an easy job??? my da works for ford so he can sort out the timing

Well usually id say fairly easy if your handy with cars but in my last experience sometimes things don't go to plan ... especially if your engine has over heated.

If its never been done, a timing belt change is probably due @ 67k. A full timing belt + pump kit would be about £40, head gasket + bolts £30. Head skimming if needed around £30. Oil + Coolant £40. But probably jumping the gun here anyway.

You can see if the pump is working by bleeding the system. If its all steam and no constant stream of water then its probably bad news. Also check for pressure in the expansion tank - there shouldn't be too much - and mayo in the rocker cover.

In any case, try get it sorted asap rather than leave it over heating.
