Newman PH3 VTS owners

   Sup VTEC team.
   
   Was wondering if any of you felt like sharing the timings you use for your PH3s + any supporting mods & a graph/RR printout if you have one.
   
   Transferring mine into my daily driver shortly but as hundreds of people are running them these days it makes sense to ask about a bit before i go & use the same settings as last time!

   I got them but I didn't time mine up.
   
   We're pulling the engine out this weekend and starting from scratch bodies and everything.
   
   Well mine mad 151bhp many moons ago I think it got mapped on a standard manifold and a magnex exhaust and a K&N Gen 2 so 151 is a good result.
   
   Various things got changed. I have a video of me driving mine so you can see the way it revs if you would like me to PM you it.
   In the video it had:
   
   Raceland 4-2-1
   BMC CDA
   Supersprint 2"

   The timing will be different on some engines, Newman give the timing as a guide more than anything,
   
   Like mine is about 10 degree advance on the exhaust side but I am using bodies and high comp pistons.
   
   When I phone Newman he told me on standard map ecu to retard the inlet 2 degrees so it will run abit better on standard map,
   
   The timing should be changed when mapping to get the best out of the cams.

   Cheers Andy, yeah i know it will change from engine to engine & map to map. I run mine with a predator ECU & initially map them myself on the road.
   
   Just wondering if any trends cropped up like people using a little extra advanced/retarded on exhaust/inlet leading to smoother curves or a higher peak etc!
   
   Nice one Aly, i wont be putting them in until next week or perhaps early feb so i'll keep an eye on your progress, any videos you've got i'll happy watch!

   Hmm there is some not main, but mine are set very werid mine engine seem werid, I am using a predator ecu, but NMS mess around with timing for ages I can't remember the timing off the top of my head but I find the paper work and let you know but I think it could be too much for standard pistons.

   Your best bet is have the timing adjusted on the rollers imo. Setting them to the lift at TDC (measure using a DTI gauage) Newman recommend should be fairly close.

   Is there a rough guide on fitting the cams ans setting the timing up to get to the rollers?

   As Andy has said, Newman recommend fitting them to the standard marks, then retarding the inlet cam 2 degrees to give a better idle. Will be fine to drive to the mappers then.

    Okay, when fitting the cams will there be a need to change the Shims/tappets clearences or does it just bolt in and then time it up?

    Tappets on the VTS are hydraulic so no need for adjustment.
    
    Cams in & go!

    Brilliant no messing around with shim clearances then like on my old punto gt was a nightmare to get them shimed up as you have to use underbuck shims on some but slimmer one on the other, there was no pattarn either just which ever ones fitted lol
