Right guys gotta swop my engine over this weekend vts lump in and out an I'm after a bit of guidance, basically can anyone give me a rough guide ie undo throttle then remove clutch engine mount etc etc
    Thanks in advance

Just a matter of removing everything that's connected really, i do it in this order:

lights/slam panel/rad/rad pipes (drain first) i remove these for easy access to remove the engine once it's on the crane
    battery
    clutch cable
    throttle cable
wiring (make sure every single wire is unplugged and out of the way)
    gear linkages
    drain gearbox oil
    remove driveshafts
remove bolts for exhaust downpipe (remove downpipe)
    remove gearbox mount

Have your engine crane(or what ever your using) to take the weight and make sure it's not going anywhere lol

Remove engine mounts( i remove the mount that's connects to the gearbox as well, then once everythings free, slowly angle the engine and slowly remove it.

Anyone please correct me if i've missed anything

Make sure you unbolt the earth strap on the gearbox too.

How long then roughly? A day?
  7. #7
Took me about hour and half roughly to take out my 1.4, Take your time and try not to break anything like sensors etc

Ive never done this. When you remove the driveshafts can you leave them bolted to the stud carriers or do they have to come out completely? Also the gear linkages any tips on undiong them, Ive never done this either.

    Sorry to butt in

maybe a good idea to label all the sensors if this is your first time? Will make the job a bit more easy

How do you go about removing the water pipes from the rear of the engine? From underneath?
  11. #11
there is a clip to the pipes just remove the clip and have a bucket ready to catch the water, they can be a pain to get off if they have never been off

Regarding engine that's goin in, as it's been stood a few month is it worth runnin a flush through before a put new oil/filter in there?
  13. #13
Do ph1 an ph2 engines have a different water pipe routing to the rear of the engine? Ie where bottom rad pipe joins an the heat exchanger!?

What are you using to remove the engine? if an engine crane, i'd keep it as one, i have one person operating the crane and one person keeping it from it swaying, then once all mounts are off, position the engine so the gearbox is to the right and other side left then slowly jack the crane up freeing the engine.

Yeah engine crane it's all striped down now, just gotta get it on some stands, downpipe off driveshafts out an it's ready. So engine an gearbox together then yeah?

Sounds like Immobilliser is kicking in, preventing you from starting the car
