what cam are you running and what sort of power is it putting out?

#2I ran a ph2 cam and it was 119bhp without a remap
Also that was using s1 rallye inlet and head
What year is your car? Tbh no matter what cam you use you will gain about the same, ph3 is the cheaper of the cams iirc so may aswell just go for that tbh it's all down to how well it's mapped, and how well timed up it is.
I'd say anywhere in-between 120 and 130bhp with a decent map but that's only a rough guestimate -
#3its a 1999. whats the difference between ph2 &ph3? i was thinking maybe a cam, a remap and a vts gearbox? just need a cam which will be as close as possible to vts speed but still ok as a daily road car as my car will probably never see a track
-
#4you would be as well gettin a s lump slammed in
then 1 day you could maybe cam and remap that
-
#5Im doing this to my vtr aswell mate going to get a ph3 newman cam in bit of head work then after a bit get it mapped should see good power gains if you got good breathing mods/exhaust etc...

#7Well for any one with a silvertop the ph2 is wilder than the ph3, but the ph2 is the same as a ph3 for the blacktopQuote:its a 1999. whats the difference between ph2 &ph3? i was thinking maybe a cam, a remap and a vts gearbox? just need a cam which will be as close as possible to vts speed but still ok as a daily road car as my car will probably never see a track
The ph2 will only fit the big bearing heads so rallye and xsi, it was an alternative to the ph3 but for these heads that's all
The ph3 is as wild as you can get tbh with out forgies anyway. So stick with that, as for gearbox, I feel the s2 rallye/1.6 xsi box is the better one to get if you can find one if not just go for a 16v box that should be fine.1 user thanked this post: -
#8my vtr is cammed with ph3's, 4-2-1 manifold, decat, supersprint race centre section with a raceland induction kit hasnt been mapped yet as its payday on the 28th so will soon have a figure. but from driving it from standard to now, defo an increase in power alot more lively well worth it
sounds mint to.
actually any1 put a bhp figure on it as a guess? 98 blacktop vtr -
#9ive got the later silvertop mk1 engine, so i would still be better of with a ph3?Quote:Well for any one with a silvertop the ph2 is wilder than the ph3, but the ph2 is the same as a ph3 for the blacktop

#10Yer ph3, I only used the ph2 as I got a good deal on a complete s1 rallye top end inc the inlet.
Unless you want to fit a blacktop vtr head and ph3 for that. But it's just hassle tbh
Stick with a ph3 or the catcam equivalent if your willing to pay the extra -
#11k cheers mate, ill stick to the ph3 newman then and possibly a vts gearbox. ive already got a green cotton filter and decat so hopefully with a remap i might see an alright gain in power

#12not woth fitting cams to silver tp engine without changing valve springs as well -they are weaker than black top engines ,so valve float can be a problem -
also do not expect to get a REAL 20bhp increase with just a cam on an 8v
thats 20%increase on std --not going to happen -10bhp tops, change springs at same time and get rev limter lifted to 7k for best results
you want to know for sure dyno it first +then take it back to same dyno and recheck -
#13cheers, any idea what valve springs to get?
