whats a 4 manifold?

   sorry but what exactly is a 4 manifold and what does it do?

   You mean 4 into 1? Or 4 - 2 - 1.
   
   Simply means the exhaust manifold has 4 branches(one frome each cylinder) and they go into 1. And the same for 4-2-1.

   A 4-2-1 is better for power lower down the rev range i.e. torque and a 4-1 is better for higher up the rev range.
   
   But I see you have a VTR engine, they have good low down torque anyway so 4-1 is probably better for you.
   And there is only one and thats a GMC.
   
   But if you want more torque and don't mind losing a bit high up the revs, then a 4-2-1 is for you.
