Clear jewels tinting question....

  1. #1
Right, I'm considering tinting the bottom of my clear jewels red, but would I just tint the square that isn't red? Or tint the whole bottom bit to make sure it all matched? Also how many coats to get good results yet stay legal?
    Cheers

my lights are half smoked, fully 100% black on the bottom and white on the top.

Ive never been stopped by the police for them, had them on for 6 months.

Tinting rear lights can get you in trouble. That said the UK has this odd culture that most people flaunt with the law all the time. So much so many police ignore people with tinted lights, tinted windows, driving with fog lights on or even speeding unless you really start pushing it. So there is a good chance that if they look like they could be oe then many police would not question it. Though i really would not recommend driving a none road legal car on the road.

This is not true. Anything that obscures, changes the colour or reduces the light output or your lights or reflector and the police can do you for it.

    Its also an mot failure.

But what I wanna know is, would I just tint the bits that aren't already red or tint the whole bottom bit to make it even?

Tint the square on the bottom half and see how if looks, if it doesnt look perfect then you can always tint the whole of the bottom half after

Just do the whole thing at once
You can't get in trouble or fail a mot on it as saxo lights are red on bottom already And only bulbs on bottom half are brake light/driving lights
Reverse and indicator are on the top so they won't lose colour

why is everybody homos about cops?

my mate has a 08 clio and used a tin of tint on each light, they are actually jet black. He did get pulled but he only had to put reflectors on, put the on the bottom corners of th bumper, and get bike ones ht are tiny. theres no law on what size youre reflecors have to be.

As smoked jewels have been designed to allow adequate reflection and allowing each bulb to shine through the casing, unlike someone tinting their own lights which may not allow those things. Its not cool to break the law. Yes people can make their own choices about these things, but some people dont know if they are legal or not.

You are both correct Matt_VTR and cloke. In the UK you can't just simply make or alter your own light as you see fit. This is as all light systems fitted to modern vehicles are required to be tested and approved as a complete unit. The laws requiring this have been with us since the 80s. E marked after market clusters are all tested and approved as required by UK law. In so any such light is perfectly legal when fitted correctly to a vehicle.

yep u cant modify oe equipment with tint spray techically becasue as said its E marked and tested for road use then u modify them which is illegal, on this note also keep an eye out for things like cheap aftermarket angel eyes which are often not e marked. To answer your question u will not get the white bottom bits to match the red, i tried. Just tint the whole lot, or do as i tried 1st mask the red bits off spray 2-3 thin even coats, then unmask the red bits and do 2 thin even coats along the whole bottom half. Just so you know the red fades over time aswell and turns to a light pinky colour!
