clinking noise

when i go over slight bumps in the road i can hear this clinking noise like metal on metal but when i get out and rock the car i cant hear it, i thought at first it could be the exhaust banging on the bottom of the car but the exhaust has hardly got any play in it

any ideas what it could be?

could be an anti-roll bar link mate lean under and pull the bar up and down see if theres any movement

Is it comming from the front or rear of the car? Front as said above could well be loose droplinks, makes that exact sound when you go over bumps. The rear could that the ARB end plate bolts have come loose. This always makes that exact metal on metal clink as you describe

Ramigo my Saxo 1.0 does this exact same thing!

However I know what is causing it on mine so listen up yours may be the same.
My CV boot on my passenger side driveshaft has gone so all the grease has come out causing it to run dry, eventually the drive shaft will fail but whenever I go over a large bump I too get this knock sound of metal on metal.

A good test to do if you can do it, find a road where they have them speed bumps that only cover a part of the road, go over one at speed and hit it with the left wheel and then do the right wheel, this will narrow down possibilities of what is causing the problem, for me I only get the sound on the left wheel as it's that driveshaft that is knackered.

its from the rear of the car, i only did the droplinks a few months ago so dont think it would be them, where can i find the ARB end plate?

    cheers

take off your rear wheels, there will be a plate with like a 10mil nut on it, just tighten that and maybe put some loctite on it. mine was making that noise and that solved it!

there is not one in that but you can see where its meant to be!
