Gearbox change

  1. #1
Just done a quick search and found a few things.
    But ..
I want to get a couple of things straight, before i go ahead with anything.

I've been thinking about putting a 1.1 box in my R,

    And i want to know from the people that have done this to see if;

You've had any major issues with it after being done.

And i've heard its better gear changing ratios which should make it abit quicker acceleration wise,
So could you actually feel that difference after?

    Cheers

go for it change the box

I'm also reading into this, only thing i'm worried about is the change of ratio's. Obviously, your gonna loose alot of top end, how much does this effect motorway driving? And the top speed? Also fuel economy?

100 mph flat out in 5th

    Really ?
Up to what speed do you stop getting better acceleration/better ratios.
    If you understood that ?

    The limiter in 5th
    70 in 5th is like 4700rpm

You should really go for a xsi box IMO then you still get the acceleration and the top end doesn't change much at all

They'd both get the same acceleration?
but just with the xsi box i'll get better top end.

I an quite sure you get better acceleration and you get alot better top end than you would on a 1.1 box

It only makes a difference in first and second and not by much either ..
    re considering whether to now.

ive been considering a quicker box for my vtr, yet still not sacrificing motorway fuel economy. been told to go for the vts/gti box as its a shorter ratio box than the vtr and at 70mph its at 4000rpm.

Ye i'm considering putting a S box in now.

    So 4750
Not bad is it really quick getting there or ?????
  24. #24
Yes never had a VTR box but its quicker getting there as your not realy going to be doing over 100 anyway so i would deffo slap a 1.1 box in as the ratios are better than the R box

Yeah I see where your coming from

Sounds to me like you've got an s1 Rallye box pal. 6250 limiter = ~110mph top speed. 7250 limiter = ~120mph top.

1.1 box will pull past a ton definately. And 70mph = ~3500rpm, 60 = ~3000rpm, basically, in 5th, the speed is roughly double the revs, if ya get what I mean. (Above a ton or so, that starts to change, so to anyone thinking it, no, your VTR won't pull to a 125mph, and hit the limiter in 5th).
