Oil level on dash

   everytime i start my car it comes up with the oil level, but it just keeps flashing for a few seconds, no dashs or boxs, then other times i start it then it has 4 dashes and 2 boxes. then all 6 boxs. im guessing its broke?
   
   the oil on the dipstick is about 20% off the maximum mark

   Have you tried for arguments sake topping the oil up very slightly to see if it makes a difference?I don`t know where the oil level sensor is on a diesel saxo.

   It Always used to read 5 boxs and 1 dash, for like 3 months after i changed oil, but then i noticed the oil was a bit low so i added more, and ever since i added more that oil level sensor on the dash has been acting weird.
