#4arent the ancient 1.4l iron blocks
-
#5correct
1.4 have iron block -
#61.4 are alloy block engines with wet liners (found in citroen AXGT, Peugeot 106, 206 and of course the Saxo).
The 16l engines are cast iron block. To be fair with the head off it will be immediately noticable. Remember not to turn the motor over with head off incas e you dislodge the liners.1 user thanked this post: -
#7Mine is a 1996 1.4i and its definately got a cast iron block with wet liners. The torque sequence for cast block engines is two stages of 120 degrees instead of one stage of 240degressQuote:1.4 are alloy block engines with wet liners (found in citroen AXGT, Peugeot 106, 206 and of course the Saxo).

#8And the correct sequance!

#9Liners are only needed for alloy block because alloy is not a well matched material for the job of a cylinder.
Sounds quite odd, sorry I am going on about it mate. I don't want you using the wrong torque settings.
Is there an engine code or something you could post up perhaps?
edit. After a bit of google action the peugeot 1.4 xsi had a 1.4 cast block aparantly. (Wet liners not used of course) -
#10Cast-iron block tightening torques:
Stage 1: 20Nm (15 lbf/ft)
Stage 2: Angle-Tighten 120°
Stage 3: Angle-Tighten 120°
Obviously in the correct sequence:
°8-----°4-----°1-----°5-----°9
°7-----°3-----°2-----°6-----°10
You will know if it's alloy or cast-iron when you take the cylinder head off

#11Well mine is a cast iron block so it must not have wet liners. I have turned the engine over without the head on and nothing untoward happened. The early ones were iron and it changed in 1997 to alloyQuote:Liners are only needed for alloy block because alloy is not a well matched material for the job of a cylinder.
