How to change alternator belt ?

  1. #1
So i got my alternator belt changed about 6 months ago and am assuming the garage did it up too tight as it's all frayed on the edges. Am goign to change it myself this time, just need a bit of help.

I do have a haynes guide but ermm it isnt so clear in that.

    I have a Saxo 1.1 Mk2 i've attached a pic of the alternator.

i know i have to loosen a bolt to get the belt off just not sure where it is, any help is appreciated

    thanks

It's abit dark, but from that picture, it looks like the tensioner bolt is missing. There should be a 9mm threaded long bolt that you would tighten or slacken to adjust tension. Then there is a 13mm lock off nut running parallel to the engine (just under the mounting bracket).

If you got a garage to do it, they probably didn't tighten or put the locking nut back on, so the tensioner bolt has vibrated loose. Can you move the alternator backwards and forwards? Get a better picture?

You have posted the same question 3 times

2 bolts and the adjuster then push it up take belt off put on new 1 then pull it back down redo 2 bolts then adjuster until the belt is quite firm.

and hmmm the garage did say that the tensioner had seized apparently and that they changed it (this was over a year ago)
another garage changed it again both times after like 3-4 months it started to fray

depends mate! there is another type of alternator which is tensioned from the bottom if you look from underneath the alternator there should be a long threaded bar which runs through a tensioner you need to loosen the bolts holding the alt(two of) and then loosen this screw

well this is how it is on the VTS one i have done today sorry if im wrong for your engine mate
