How to: Passenger airbag removal

  1. #1
Tools required: Torch, 8mm spanner or socket & rachet & T20 torx.

    Difficulty rating: easy.

Assuming you've unplugged the associated wiring and disconnected the battery... firstly you need to get your head down to look up underneath your dash.

Push the air vent duct (pictured) up out of the way to gain access to the rear of the airbag.

Then undo the 4 bolts (one at each corner) that hold the airbag in place using a 8mm socket or spanner and carefully remove the airbag unit from the dash. (note this may be made easier if the centre panel of the dash is out)

Lastly undo the 4 T20 torx screws that hold the airbag frame in place which are in plain view once the airbag unit is removed.

Job done, you've now got a big hole in your dash.
