Noisey engine...

Wondered if anyone can help me diagnose an issue I have with my 52 saxo VTS. When cold starting the engine its noisey and sounds like a diesel, when warm the noise is gone. I have no issue with performance but the noise is driving me crazy!!! Maybe an oil change or additive may help relieve the noise and the engine?? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Also wanted to see if anyone knows a good garage in my area, I live in Staines near Heathrow.

    Thanks again for any guidance

Do an oil change most engine wear happens on cold start because the oil has not heated up to operating efficiency.Check the colour of your oil it should be tea coloured if its black then its lost its viscosity rub some between your fingers if it feels gritty then its lost its viscosity.Plus these oil additives aren`t very good bar 1 that i`ve heard is good which is ZX1

My VTS years ago was like this, my VTR now is like this...it's just saxo engines unfortunately! There's barely any sound proofing in the car so you hear it more than on something newer like a Vauxhall which're relatively silent in comparison. But yeah, do a check like Steve said, also...is the timing belt due renewal soon? (every 80k I believe) as that can make for a noisier engine too.

Thanks for the advice on this one, will check and do an oil change. I normally use 10w 40 castrol magnatec, would it be better to use a 15w 40 instead as my engine has done 76000 miles and the extra thickness may help the noise?? I also looked up the ZX1 oil treatment and will definitly put some in with the oil change, it sounds like good stuff!!

I had the timing belt changed 4 months back, so Im hopfully all good there.

Cheers for the advice, really appreciate your help
