    Hi all

I have a 1.4 i furio saxo and the diff bearings went about 3 months ago any way i got a second hand gearbox fitted and the selector went so i got a third one fitted.. same problem diff bearings but this time its come back with a fengiunce. My question is i have just been onto the phone to a gearbox "Specialist" and he says that because this gearbox is off a 1.6 vtr my speedo will be out? and that i would need all new bearings inside the gearbox if the dif ones have gone? is this true or is he trying to pull wool over my eyes.
I have been quoted £250 off anougher garage for just the diff bearings doing thats including takeing out of the car.

    Thanks in advance

Your getting a box refurbished - it would be silly to not change every seal/bearing/synchro in the box. Tell them you want everything done. Also, the parts arent terribly expensive, its the labour thats a real killer.

he was going to charge me £500 for a full box refurb thats in and out of the car the problem is i havnt got that kind of money whats would happen if the diff bearings went could it take the engine out? thats my big worry if the box goes then the box goes but the engine is top notch not a rattle on it and with 130.000 on the clock i cant moan at that lol.

In fact anougher question is what does a worn diff bearing sound like???? i would have thought it would be a whine and not a rumble? cause the box thats on makes a rumbling noise when driving as though a tooth is chipped or something?

sorry for the triple post aswell but i have just been out and i have found that it only makes the noise going forward it doesnt do it when reversing

£500 for a full refrub including fitting and removal of your old box is a very reasonable price. Either take out a loan or gamble on a used box (90% of the time its buggered in some way - I promise)
