rocker gasket splitting

   I just changed my rocker cover gasket and it has split all along the front is this due to over tightening?

   ive got no idea about the gasket

   this happend to me a few weeks back! lucky enough a garage done it for me so it was a free replace as they had only just done it. but mine didnt have enough selant on there if that helps
