help needed?????

hi guy's need your help please,
had a clutch fitted 4 weeks ago and after 1 week i thought that the release bearing had gone again.so took it back to the garage again (like you do) and was told it was the bearing in the box that was making the noise.so thought i would leave the now till i got the pennies together to get a new box.

but today i was stuck in a jam coming home from work and i took my foot of the clutch pedal (in 1st)and found that the car moved off it's self without even touching the accelerator (even done it in 2nd),revs and speedo did not move.can pull away in 4th and 5th gear no probs with light acceleration.also engine sounds terrible.

do you think this could be the clutch thats away again and not the box like i was told???????.

please help so i can phone the garage in the morning

I may not be reading this right but you say: "I took my foot of the clutch pedal in 1st, and found that the car moved off it's self without even touching the accelerator" <-- this sounds normal to me? Is that what you meant?

Was it making a noise before you took it in for the clutch changing? A gearbox bearing wouldn't wear out over night. Are you sure they refilled it with gearbox oil?

you dont need to have revs on for the car to move forward :/ if you come up with the clutch in 1st with no revs it should start to roll forward, then when come up all way, should stall.

if in gear (say 1st) and you have your foot right down on the clutch, you shouldnt move, if you bring your foot up of course your car is going to move once it reaches biting point.

if when your foot is right down on the clutch and is in gear and your car start 2 pull away then yeah imo i would say your clutch was fucked as this is what happened with mine.

box wasn't making any noise the clutch was, yeah there was gearbox oil in the car.just seems strange that the car keeps travelling and doesn't want to stall until i press the brake, can even do it in second gear(just lift the clutch and away i go)i can even pull away in 4th and 5th gear like you do in 1st.even the engine sounds really bad.my son even said it sounds like a plane.ha ha

just that i've been driving for years and never know a car to do this, every car i've had stalls as soon as you lift the clutch without pressing the accelerator

you mean when you come up fully with the clutch? or just to biting point?

Diesels have a habit of powering off without stalling in any gear

Anyway.. if you think something is wrong, then take it back to the garage, you have paid for a service which you are entitled to be happy with... if your not it needs sorting

maybe your clutch cable is too tight mate?

i kept on tighening mine untill it was that tight when i had my foot all the way down on the clutch in first gear that it started 2 pull away ..

yeah when i come up fully on the clutch (1st and 2nd gear) without touching the accelerator, the car just cruises along ,drove for about a mile like this the day until the traffic had stopped.

sorry mean't to say it's a 1.4 westcoast, doesn't feel as tho it has the same pull that it had.

What is the rev gauge showing? 900rpm? How does it idle in neutral?
  12. #12
yeah, idle's ok,sit's round about 850-900,that's what strange as it not over reving or anything

apart for a loud ticking noise which the garage said was the bearing in the box,but when you put the clutch down goes away.
