this is very common on the MA box. the problem is usually not actually the gearbox mount at fault, but excessive movement generally caused by the lower mount being worn. torque and twist of the engine is then taken on the gearbox upper mount, and only being 8mm studs. tend to snap. or snap the casing completely.
(also worth noting: the nut that goes onto the stud above the mount can vibrate loose, make sure you ALWAYS use a nyloc nut)
when this happens it makes a mess, as the engine is unsupported, and it pulls the shaft out rendering the car drive less. on my own car i have fabricated a lower support so that in the event of a mount failure, the gearbox lands on something, so at least i can drive home.. rather than having the thing fall out.
we did a modification on one of my gearbox casings, drilled and tapped to take high tensile M10 studs rather than 8mm. combined with a heavily uprated lower gearbox mount i never had this problem again (this was @ 300bhp). although i strongly recommend uprating the gearbox upper mount if you drive the car hard or do any trackdays.
extreme horsepower or long term track use.. competition engine mounts all round.
