front wheel noise!!

Recently I'm not sure why but theirs a noise coming from the driver's side front wheel.
When you first drive it, it makes a quite squeak then when you take it above 40 it make's a kind of scratchy noise but only when you're just coming off throttle or just on!
I thought it might be the driveshaft c.v joint but i've had a look and it seems okay
maybe its the wheel bearing?? but its never happened before just recently

    any idea's?

Sounds similar to one of my noises which I thought at first was a bearing/driveshaft but then I noticed it only happened when my foot was off the accelerator or had the clutch fully depressed...

After a bit of research I'm edging my bets that it is the clutch release bearing, the haynes manual also suggests that this is the fault, so will be getting this replaced in the next few weeks

Driveshafts are being replaced at the moment so will let you know if that solves it but I'm convinced its the release bearing

hmm i don't think its the clutch as the sound definitely isn't coming from that side,
let us know if the new driveshaft fixes yours

got the same problem i think. Can only hear when foot is off the accelerator or clutch is pressed down. Let us know if you find the solution.

Picking up the car at lunchtime, new drive shafts and brand new gearbox oil will see if the noise has gone...

I had two separate noises; first one was a scratching/whining noise when not accelerating or the clutch was fully down which at first I thought was coming from the passenger wheel but possibly from the clutch itself, 2nd noise is a high pitched squeaking coming from the drivers side wheel when turning left... I'm hoping the driveshafts have fixed the first noise but think the squeaking is a wheel bearing issue

I had this turned out to be a wheel bearing dead horrible noise

i was in the car today and my mum was driving from the passenger side it sound's like the clutch release bearing how much do you reckon it'd cost? its probably more in labour than parts

thrust bearing bowt 17.50 an labour i would do it for £80 but you would be better off doing the clutch at the same time

Ok so just been out in the car for well over an hour and all noises gone! :-D

Work done was replace driveshaft on drivers side, replace seal on passengers side (there was a slight leak from the gearbox which has now been sealed) along with major service, cam belt and water pump it's driving spot on with no weird noises!

Got it balanced on the way home too, didn't realise it had to be a specific machine for a saxo, so no more vibrations at 70!

Sorry for bumping a proper old thread! I have this problem, although it's only 20 quid for a driveshaft, I'm wondering is it just dirt getting in the bearing causing the howl or is it actually a failed bearing? For some reason I'm under the impression that it's fixed to the driveshaft and turns in the mount opposed to it actually spinning freely on the shaft?? I've not seen a shaft for a while but if someone's got one off can you confirm? I'd rather pull the mount and clean it over replacing a shaft and box oil for 30 quid! Cheers
