Immobiliser / ignition problem

Hi, hope someone out there can help!

Ok have a problem starting my Saxo VTS, it's a 1999 V plate, mark 2. First off a light had appeared on the dash board, a box with a key symbol on the far left, don't know what this is as I didn't get the manual when I bought the car. Started the car ok, but this symbol didn't disappear then turned the ignition key off and removed the key, however the engine kept running for a few seconds? Put key back in and started ok, drove to the shops no problem, locked the car with the key fob. Came back to the car and unlocked the car however the indicators didn't flash, but the car unlocked. Before I put the key in the ignition all the lights on the dashboard were on, petrol gauge needle was rising and falling as was the water gauge, put key in and car wouldn't start? It's turning over ok but not starting up? Also lights on the dash are on even with out the key in the ignition, had to disconnect the battery?

Called recovery, he took me to a garage, the guy couldn't fix it said it was an electrical problem. I've booked it into a Citroen dealership, gonna cost at least £50 just to look at it. Has anybody got any info or suggestions on this problem? Is it the immobiliser or a serious electrical fault? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers!

A local garage will be able to run a diagnostic - same as citroen r gona do. Only for half the price.

    Sounds electrical.
