clutch, gearbox problems?

   Hi all.
   wondering if anyone can give me some advice.
   ive got a mk2 vts.
   the other night i didnt even get to the end of my road due to a problem out of the blue.
   the clutch feels strange, like theres more pressure on it. the biting point is really high and you cant feel it, the car just jumps and stalls unless your ragging the revs! theres a banging noise from the engine when the gear is activated and also ive noticed the clutch pedal has risen far too high but when i accelerate the clutch goes down to its normal position.
   
   thats about everything ive noticed hopefully someone can give me some advice on what it could be.

   Check the clutch cable, Renew the gearbox oil, check linkages, check engine mounts.
