Cupholder

Anyone tried putting one in where the ashtray is?
I dont smoke and the ashray rattles so ive been looking at mounting a pop out cup holder there and wondered if anyone else had tried it?
  2. #2
I must say, a usable cup holder is one thing that the saxo is certainly missing
  3. #3
i cant put anythin in the cupholder itll just fall out there absolute crap
  4. #4
Yeah the ones in the glovebox lid are dire.
Will have a look around on my center console search for useable cupholders to fit in the ashtray hole.

someone on 106boners had a vw style one mounted in the dash with the model badge goes, really impressed by it
  6. #6
Yeah i saw that, in the 106 badge on the dash, thought about putting one where the 4 blank dash buttons are.

The ones in the glovebox lid are fine... apart from when your travelling then it epicly fails need a decent one for the ashtray hole

I don't have that problem. Probably because I don't drink in my car.
  9. #9
Well if you did then the problem would be quite apparent.

Isn't it illegal to drink something while driving now anyway? I know people have been pulled for eating food while driving, but I've never heard of someone being pulled for having a drink?

even if it is illegal a cup holder would still be useful for carrying a drink lol

It's illegal to do lots of things now whilst driving for good reason.
Shouldn't affect your passengers doing it though.

saxo cup holders = epic fail

im pretty sure if you got hold of a mondeo cup holder you could fit it anywhere they're really small when pushed in

I agree, I was just wondering about the legalities of enjoying a cold coke on the move.

My monster cans just get rammed in the doorcard, a cup holder would be very good though, i will keep a keen eye on this.

SNAP! Well irritating, i was thinking about fabricating one out of a solid base and some bungee cord and strapping it to between the mirror baseplate and the mirror its self so its over the stalk bit. Its not in the way, and ya drink gets cold

Not much use in the rain tho unless u had a bottle with a lid

Keep us updated with how this goes, desperately need a cupholder. In the mean time I got a 1.50 universal thing from asda where it has an arm which slides down thegap between the doorcard and your window and lies flat against the door card and like folds open. Hard to expain. Does the job for the moment lol still need to hold a big mac and steer whilst having a packet of chips in between my legs but meh. I cope

As soon as i get the part i'll be on with it, will take pics etc and try do a guide.
    Well if it works anyway

Mate had a mcd's cup of coke on the cupholder. didnt believe me it would fall as soon as i started moving. I made him clean up the mess. Would deffo like the ashtray to be converted to one. non smoker. only use it for holding ipod aux wires
  27. #27
THis would be very helpful if there was a guide on how to do this as all i keep in my ashtray is chewing gum
  28. #28
i thought of this idea ages ago i have actually got a vw cup holder that slides out, removed the middle part of the dash took the 4 buttons out cut holes for it to fit but it just wouldnt fit properly as of the plastic cover on the cup holder does not go all the way in as its bigger than the outter surroundings of where the buttons sit, alot of modifying and it would work, might try it again soon.

But for now i have a cup holder that slots into the doorcard shall take a picture at somepoint it comes in rather handy.

Just saw the mondeo cup holder on ebay, looks promising tbh and cheap compared to the vw part.
