pad retaining slider

  1. #1
    Morning.

Had a go at changing discs and pads on the back, the o/s rear retaining pad is stuck in pretty bad with rust. I didn't wanna hammer away at it in case of damage. Any easy way to prize it out? I'm assuming people will suggest some form of wd40/other rust repelling gear...but wondering if there's anything in particular that works very well or some other method?

    Cheers.

the bars on mine were quite warped, so i ordered new bars and clips, and used a small chisel and hammer and just tapped them out, used a wire brush with wd40 and generally brushed over them beforehand.

Ok cool, I'm assuming the parts are cheap?

service kits are 4 quid for the uprated delphi kit with bars 2 split pins and anti vibration springs so hammer away mate.

You referring to the slider on the bottom of the pads?
I used a hammer and decent chizzle, also reused them. Done this plenty of times and never had any problems re-using them.

    Thanks Steve,

I am, yeah. Did you do this chisel business with the caliper taken off or did you leave it on?

I done mines a few days ago (rear).

The bar was very rusty and stuck so soaked it in WD40 and chizzled (used a screw driver and hammer) to knock it out.

I replaced it them with new sliders from a brake fitting kit, mines was a mintex kit that costs £7.5 for a local autoparts - I couldn't really find them much cheaper including P+P which is expensive for a few clips!

    Hope this helps!
