Wheel lacquering?...

Read the usefull wheel refurb and spray thread but doesnt answer my question..

Got some wheels off someone which has had a fresh paint job in black, i can literally scratch the paint off with finger nail pressing a little hard...

Could some coats of Lacquer sort this out? clear lacquer?

If so ill nip out tomorrow and grab some!..

a couple of layers should help protect the paintwork more, does the paint feel wet?
could be the person sprayed the wheels too thick or didn't wait long enough for each layer to dry properly

Either what jojo said....orrrr....they didnt prep them correctly...i.e sand the alloy, then prim, then paint...and the obviously havent laqured....if i were you id sand them down and re-do them...as eventually they will peel, even with the laqure as there is no surface for the bottom layer to stick to, so that will come loose and every coat ontop of that, including the laqure ....

its not hared to repaint them as the guide youve read will explain

    Hope this helps

    Thanks to both!

I'll lacquer them tomorrow then leave 24 hours or so give it a good few coats. Do i have to sand it down after each coat or just spray then dry as on the guide it just says spray and sure someone said i had to sand it ?

Not to sure they didn't feel wet feel like normal alloy to touch as if there not sprayed.

Also I think I'll keep these as i have my current set on the car which I'm going to do a different colour, well give it a go anyway now there's nothing to lose if it goes pear shaped, just start again with no consequence, hence why i bought a spare set done in black

Thanks for the advice guys i'll give it a go and keep you posted.

Well when i spray i just do a very light 'tickle' over the last coat of primer to get rid of any bigish bumps or inperfections...then the same after my final coat of paint...and wiping down with white spirit and a lint free cloth...then laqure....i leave the primer 24hours...paints 24hours and laqure 24hours with an extra 12hours to fully harden...then polish up and put on car...PM me if you need any more detailed help bud be glad to help
