Gearbox issue?

  1. #1
Basically, I was driving along the other day and couldn't change gear. The car goes into gear when switched off perfectly fine. If I leave it in gear and start the car, the car will pull away. So this rules out the clutch IMO (which is 1000 miles old).
I was told that it sounds like the shaft that goes from the gearbox, through the clutch and into the flywheel has come loose inside the box. I'm sorry I don't know the correct name for the parts.
Does anyone know if this could possible happen? I was told it can be fixed by taking the box apart and welding that part back into its correct position.
The clutch is almost to the floor, but not completely.
    Any advice is welcome.
    Thanks.

I had this problem, even when I put the clutch right down to the floor it started to pull away as if it was at biting point. I kept on tightening my clutch cable until it actually bent and snapped the lever arm thing your on about. Had to get a new clutch and get it welded.

It sounds like the mainshaft bearing has come loose/worn away, i think i have the same problem on my 1.0 but as im doing an engine swap soon i will be having a look. I havent stripped a saxo gearbox down yet but plan to i will let you know how hard it is and what to do

main shaft bearing? I doubt it! The main shaft and input shaf are synchronised together! If thats the case then it wouldnt go into gear at all! Check the clutch! Sounds more like the trust bearing of the clutch!
