Release Bearing Positioning ?

  1. #1
Hi, I had a noisy clutch release bearing on my vtr so I'm putting a new clutch in while i'm there. I've dropped the box and put the clutch in. The release bearing on the shaft, I've slid the old bearing off and put the new one on but does it lock or click into place ? if I spin it it sits further back or will it find its own position when the box goes back on? First clutch I've done so forgive me if i sound daft

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

release bearing should have 2 little lugs on it that clip on to the 2 forks on the clutch arm

    Oh yes, got it. Thanks.

One last one.... There is a collar on the shaft about 40mm long that sits between the shaft and the bearing, should that also slide up and down or should it be locked into the base of the shaft ? Thanks.

the rubber collar is just loose mate,,,,just put it back where it came from when you put the drive shaft back in,,,,,be carefull not to move the clutch arm too much when lifting the box in(depending how you lift it bk in),,,,,some release bearings can come off the lugs quiet easy before the box is on...some clip on nice but others dont....

Thanks, its not a rubber one. Its a metal one that sits at the bottom of the transmission shaft where the release bearing goes. It looks like it should be locked into the bottom so the bearing slides up and down it when the clutch arm moves. On mine it slides with it. It this how its supposed to be ??? Don't want to put box back on and find its not!!!!

Just realised its sheared off and it supposed to be bolted to the bottom... I'll post a new thread with a photo. see if anyone knows what effect it'll have or if it will need replacing.
    Cheers guys.
