Recommend a good breaker bar set

  1. #1
not sure this is right section for this question but....

can anyone recommend a good breaker bar? 1/2 drive and atleast 60cm long. preferably with a socket set.

need it for removing stuborn wheel nuts.

bit tight on cash, so not too expensive, but dont want cheap tatt either.

Also what size are the wheel nuts on a furio x reg.

I didn`t buy mine as a set but the breaker bar I use is made by Draper then I bought Draper impact sockets I believe the wheels nuts are 19mm.(correct me if i`m wrong please.)

The draper ones break too easy. I use the halfords ones, have got a 30cm and a 3ft one.

Never had a problem with Sealey Tools:

SEALEY AK730 BREAKER BAR 600MM 1/2" SQ DRIVE NO AK7301

SEALEY 10pc IMPACT SOCKET SET 1/2" DRIVE METRIC

BTW, all my sockets are snap-on. 6 sided long sockets... £90 for 10 of them - I was gutted when the 14mm went missing!

wheel nuts are 19mm, have you tried a proper wheelbrace in the shape of a cross? Ive never come across wheel nuts you cant get off with one of those, and you look a decent sized lad.

I got a breaker bar from Halfords 3' long for £20, after I left my Brittol one on pavement, boohoo

Snap-On is overrated IMO. Loads of other places give a lifetime warranty on tools anyway. I suppose their handy when the snap-on man appears in his van and gives you them there and then on finance but im happy with my Halfords advanced (lifetime warranty) for 1/4 of the cost

A wheel brace lol most garages stopped using these years ago, what you have remember about snap-on tools is their for heavy repeated everyday use in garages, most of us on here are hobby mechanics so use these tools every once in a while.

cheers for the replies, might have a trip to halfords tommorrow. Or even get that Sealey breaker bar.
The one saxo supply in the spare wheel is a joke, it literally bent when i used it, not using my feet, just my bare hands lol

Recently had my wheels changed, must have tightened them too much or something, never had this problem before.

I snapped the standard Renault one and I wasn't giving it much abuse.

When am feeling heavy handed its the old fail safe 1" drive and 3 foot bar, after that its cutting gear time.

because they're naff. easier to carry 4 sockets and one bar, plus you get better leverage on the bar

i got a bluespot breaker bar, brother has a draper one. mine was cheap but has served me well!

Why are they naff? Ive had mine for years and its been handy and quick to use, and only cost a couple of quid.

Next question, why would you want to carry 4 sockets? And where would you carry them, do you mean in the car? If so how can 4 sockets and a 3' long bar be easier to carry than a compact wheel brace?

1 you can`t get the leverage needed with a wheel brace & 2 a breaker bar is handy for a lot of other jobs other than wheel changing.

    1/ I can

2/ True but to 'carry it with you' is a little strange. Do you put it in the boot? What do you do with the 4 sockets?

Breaker bar stays at home with my tools,if I need to change a wheel(puncture)while i`m out i`ve got a telescopic wheel wrench with a 19mm socket in my boot.

Oh ok, "easier to carry 4 sockets and one bar" but where do you carry them?

I don`t carry 4 sockets and 1 bar just the telescopic bar with built in 19mm socket in the boot.
