is this wire important

i took the engine loom off my furio as it was not running and came across this wire coming from the gearbox and have no idea what it is

can anyone tell me wat it is

looks like an earth strap of some kind, its the right size for one?

yes it could stop it from starting, do you have power to the rest of the car?
and is the wire from the negative terminal connected or is it frayed like that one?

no that is the only wire i found like that in the engine bay. the battery is flat but when i put a battery charger thing onit the electric windows and stuff worked dont know about the lights. all i got on the dash was the battery sign in red

yes this is the earth strap for the starting system looks like the gearbox one is attached just need to get that back on the chassis.

there is a bolt behine the battary attach it there. it is also attached to the small fuse box above it

all i have is about a foot long lenth of wire coming from top of gearbox its not attached to anything

I'm pretty sure that needs to attach to the starter motor. Is it bolted to the top of the gearbox at one end?

it had wires that was attached to the started motor and there wasnt any wearelse on it to put another wire and yh its just goes into the top of the gearbox

Starter motor will have a big one and a small one, that should screw on with a ring connector to the big bolt on the end of the starter. I think

there was three wires on the starter two of them went to the big bolt and one that went to a 8mm bolt.
i have two wires attached to the gearbox and one of them goes to the battery and to a bolt just behind the battery and the other one is just infront of the plug and goes nowere

starter motor has 1 wire going to altinator and one to battery, then a blue wire which is the exciter wire. so its not the starter motor wire. it looks like the main battery earth.

theres two wires coming off the negative one goes to a bolt behind battery and other goes to gear box but theres another one on the gearbox and i dont know wat it is

mate i have told you it connects to the chassis behind the battary it just a earth strap!! bolt it on the chassis and it will work

so there is two wires that goes to that bolt from the gearbox then coz there is one that goes to that bolt from the gearbox already

What is your problem is it not starting?

the earth from the starter motor is normally a yellow/green earth colour wire. if there is already a wire to the earth point behind the battary and that connects the engine and chassis up but have you got a earth from the battary to the chassis/engine if not then i suggest this is the earth for that

the guy who owned it before me changed the engine and didnt get it running

there is a wire that goes from the gearbox to the battery and to that bolt behind the battery is that rite. and i have another pritty thick black wire coming from the gearbox just infront of the plug on the gearbox (i beleive it may be the speedo)

thats the reverse switch, to me having just done mine it is an earth cable, so try connecting it to the chassis and see wat happens

Definitely the earth cable! Buy a new connector loop, loosen one of the front gbox bolts and re-screw the bolt through the connector loop! Stainless steel if possible! If you check the front gbox bolts you will probably find the connector loop!

its already attached at the gearbox, what good would attaching the other end to the gearbox be?????????
wants to be attached to a chassis earth.
