small smear of hylomar round the oil feed at the front corner of the gasket, and i mean small, not a great dollop, as thats the usual cause of leaks. Rest of gasket should be fitted dry

i'd put a smear either side of the gasket, sadly loads of people seem to think more is better, until it bungs oilways up and naffs the engine.

I agree, but i dont use hylomar! I use Wurth gasket sealer! Just a bit round the oil oil feed side! the rest i leave untouched, it self seals with the heat! But use a good quality gasket! I use Payen gaskets! They never fail! Trust me, experience talks here!

place the gasket in place, then put the bit of sealer on the gasket! Just a thin film! nothing much!

Hylomar is more then good enough lol, it was developed by Hunting for use by Rolls Royce for use in aero engines, let alone a Saxo engine lol. As for Payen gaskets, a big YES the only ones to use for longevity.
