Hi, I failed my NCT(irish mot) yesterday on rear suspension bushes. My mechanic says i need a new back axel but he didnt even look under the car. Is changing the bushes as big a job as he reckons or am i better off just changing them? I dont really know a lot about this sort of thing but I know I havent got 3/4 hundred ofr a new axel atm. Any info at all would be a great help thanks

#2if you mean the mounting bushes then no its not a hard job just replace with some poly race or powerflex
-
#3he more then likely means trailing arm bearings in which case if you haven't got the money you need to start shopping round in the minefield that is secondhand axles. To replace them isn't an easy job to start with and 95 times out of 100 you'll find the stub pin that the bearing runs on will be pitted and worn out anyway.

#4thanks for the help.. i dont know what the bushings are called but there just infront of the shock on both sides.. second hand axels over here are between 2 and 4 hundred and dont have that sort of money to throw at the car at the minute..

#5or is it possible to buy any saxo back axel and change something to make it disc brakes or am i going well off track here?

#6If your paying 300-400 for a secondhand axle, we can send you a fully refurbed one for that, and our delivery and return to ireland is pretty reasonable.
