I have a 16v and it idle up and down sometimes its ok but when you floor it it holds back and wont go unless you ease off and plut your foot slowly down to the floor, what is this likely to be? Its now doing my head in i dont know what else to try.

#2When was it last serviced?
Steve. -
#3Around a month ago, iridium plugs, air filter, oil filter, fuel filter the lot, its been like it for months i just cant work out what the problem is.
-
#4Can aybody help?
-
#5Its difficult to say because i would say fuel filter? but if its just been serviced then im not really sure? is the clutch slipping?
-
#6try clean the throttle boddie. if not it could be the iridium plugs i know my ek9 hated them ad it had a massive amount of time before the revs would pick up try a cheap set of ngk ones i got a feeling that's your problem.
-
#7Im going to be deadly serious but i think this could be my trouble also as it idles up and down aswell. I put some iridiums in my other halfs 1.1 106 and since then that hasnt been like it used to. I have some standard ngk plugs il try. Hopefully this works. I changed the fuel filter but i have ran it low on petrol since so it could be a blocked injector but its not all of the time its most of the time though.

#8Mine does this int he day, at night it has no problems and it fast as a chicken.
Strange how night time air effects engines lol.1 user thanked this post: -
#9night time the air is more dense due to the cold temperatures so you get more oxygen in it.Quote:Mine does this int he day, at night it has no problems and it fast as a chicken.

we have had a lot of trouble at work with iridium plug's at work. In my opinion if you don't have a big powered car then stay away. -
#10Yeh it does, especially last nignt, core it was like it had something pricking it's ass... Then my manifold blew off so it was short lived lol.Quote:night time the air is more dense due to the cold temperatures so you get more oxygen in it.

New Studs... Ehhh

#13Make sure your throttle cable isn't frayed etc.

#14Right lads i have put standard plugs in (new ones) no change, tried another coil, air temp sensor, took the hole inlet off and cleaned along with all sensors even took the fuel regulator off and cleaned that out but still now change apart from its worse it wont tick over it cuts out and when you floor it it dont want to know but if you slowly creep your foot down it gets up speed then has a big spurt of power and go like F**k. Now im lost, im thinking of trying another inlet with all sensors. Does anybody else know what this could be? its asif its not getting enough fuel and struggling to run as its up and down. Im thinking the regulator as it sounds like it did after we did the engine conversion with the 1.4 regulator still attached. Please help guys this is getting to me badly now!
-
#15If it sounds like it's running out of fuel, then it must have a blockage somewhere
-
#16Yeh that is exactly what it seems like asif it cant get enough fuel, if i get brake cleaner/carb cleaner and spray a little into the air filter while its running it will idle fine but as soon as i take it away it hunts again! I will admit the petrol light was on but i have now put £15 in and its no better. How can i do a fuel pressure test?
-
#17might be a long shot but have you put the fuel filter flowing in the correct direction as the bosch ones wont filter in two directions.
-
#18pretty sure its the right way, it had an arrow on it so i put it facing the same way as the one i took off but i will check that as it could be my problem!
-
#19Could it be my fuel pump? it sounds to be pumping all the time while running but it could be having spurts??
-
#21Yeh I have a broken Temp sensor, well it was alright lol.Quote:Mre than likely a temperature sensor on your car thats causing it.

Steve.
It's the 3rd one in 3 weeks so I've left it for now until I can find out why they keep breaking
But night time air is more engine friendly never the less
-
#23Night time will be because the air is colder/denser.Quote:Yeh I have a broken Temp sensor, well it was alright lol.

#24My 1.4i auto is having the same kinda problem, when you put your foot down it pulls like an old dog, but when you do it slowly it accelerates better, but not like it should do, but in neutral it runs sweet as a nut, you dip the throttle and it respond's perfectly, doesn't hunt up or down, misfire or anything. I have recently changed the head gasket (had an over heating prob, and it run even worse), also had the head skimmed, I thought it I had done something wrong but it runs better now than before, it's just the accelerating issue. I have changed the crankcase sensor, HT leads, Throttle potentiometer, coolant temp sensor, stripped down the throttle body, cleaned the Idle control valve, air temp sensor. But still it's not accellerating properly, I have had the injectors out and cleaned them, and the fuel rail, checked the fuel pressure valve incase the filter was dirty, fuel runs ok from the fuel pipes, so pump is ok. But STILL NO LUCK!!!!!!!! Also have had the ecu plugged into and no warning codes were present. Pos thinking it now a transmission problem, as if it was a fuel prob the engine wouldn't run ok in neutral.
-
#25Which temp sensor was it?? and did it show up as an ecu error code???
-
#28Which temp sensor?? Air Intake Temp sensor??
-
#29Is it the one on the underneath of the throttle body on the air box flange?? or is it inside the map sensor
-
#30Iam now thinking the ecu is shot....... Iv unplugged the temp sensor while its runnig a and it speeds the engine up very slightly but still lumpy.
-
#31If there is a difference when you unplug it then it's working, if there's no difference then it doesn't work.Quote:Iam now thinking the ecu is shot....... Iv unplugged the temp sensor while its runnig a and it speeds the engine up very slightly but still lumpy.
-
#32Nearly all the sensors make no difference when unplugged. Going to try different injectors tomorrow night, i tried another crank sensor today but it has now lost nearly all power and really sluggish, seems to have got worse.
-
#33Problem cure it was the lambda sensor, i replaced it and all is good again!
