back disc brake sticking.....

  1. #1
    hi,first off thanks for reading!
my cars a 2001/Y reg vtr(disc brakes all round)

since we had a few foot of snow a couple of months ago(during which my car want sideways,"a lot")ive since noticed my back brakes are sticking on,its now got to the point where i feel the back end drop down as i set off.i jacked my car up during my dinner break at work to see if it was 1 side or both(its both) i tried turning the wheels and it would'nt turn unless i used a lot of force, the strange part is when in driving around it seems to come and go at time's(even tho i've stopped using the handbrake all together an just park it up and leave it in gear)

is it just a simple case of stripping the brakes down and cleaning it all up/wire brushing/ect

    my plan is:

    jack it up/chock up
    strip it all down
    wire brush any dirt/ect off
    checking the cables free
    copper slicking
    then re fit everything
then do the same on the other side

    am i MISSING anything???

(P.S. its rainging outside and in going to be getting soaked)

thank's for any advice in advance!!

I had exactly the same problem as you mate! basically when you pull off the back drops but after 10-15 minutes it stops? Your pistonmis sticking on mate and you need to change them

As above mate you need a complete caliper and its best to swap both of them as when i changed 1 the other went... I couldnt tell you a price as i took my calipers off my old axle as they were in good working order! But to replace them is a piece of piss. Takes the caliper off holding the pads and it will reveal the caliper with the piston on the back are 2 bolts undo both of them and get the new caliper ready as you will need to undo 1 of the break pipes. Quickly put the pipe on the new caliper then put it back together but you WILL need to bleed the system If you have any problems ill try get some pics up :d
