Strip the car to 1 seat, decat, 4branch, breather mods and my 1,1 could keep with standard vtr's

    4 branch ?

not being an e-warrier but there is no chance in hell a 1.1 with those mods would keep up with a decent vtr

i was thinking that but be a good laught if they could

Cheapest option is sell it and buy a bigger engined Saxo.

If you really want to keep that shell you can always do an engine swap. Though it can be quite a lot of work.

Wanting to stay 1.1 then boost such as a turbo or super charger is a good way to make a significant gain in power. Though does cost quite a bit to do well.

Normally aspirated and staying 1.1 you have to start spending a lot to get significant gains. A good cold air induction kit, performance exhaust with manifold and fast road cam would see you a small gain but your still talking a relatively slow car for the money involved.

wat the best cam to get ?
  8. #8
The £££££ ur spending on mods i.e cams etc would be better of buying a R/S engine and running gear.

not really. Maybe a turbo, but the actual cost of doing that means you're better off buying a proper VT

Not worth it. Get a years NCB. What i would do is tidy it up. headlights - taillights - vt kit? and get a decent air filter with an decent exhaust system then leave it at that. If you turbo it you will be chasing power a vtr/s could gain from easy mods

Just enjoy your car man, cam it if you like it's your money at the end of the day.

Ask the lads who met up at stoke on trent meet, it was a 1.1 and it kept with a standard vtr.

Leave the car as it s not worth spending money on it.

    Steve.

what condition was the vtr? and did it really give it everything? like going to 60 in 2nd gear?

Yea the lad who I was racing was nailing his car
  16. #16
    Hmmm

Let's say it was the mk1 vtr 90bhp, and with all they mods on your 1.1 it would be running possibly 65-70 bhp.

There's no way you would be near one as the torque figure on the vtr alone is enough to fend you off.

His vtr must be broken lol
  17. #17
To be honest there's loads of things that could be broken or worn to make the VTR slow.

He could rag it all the time, so his compression is low therefore he'll have massive power loss.
He could have faulty sensors, or anything really...

My 1.1 can keep up with a VTR until 3rd gear then they normally leave me for the Llama's
  18. #18
    Aint you forgetting the gearing
My mate had a bog standard 1.1 106 mk1 with the 4 speed gearbox
Coming out of a roundabout my old vts couldn't catch him till mid way through 3rd

    You sir are an idiot.

Fitting a manifold to a 1.1 aint going to make much difference, it's not the manifold that's restrictive, it's the engine itself!

I am sorry but unless the vtr was running on half the power or the 1.1 was boosted then there is no way in hell a 1.1 would keep with it.

    Was the driver 200 stone?

Blimey, not the 'lads who met up at stoke on trent meet'
If they witnessed it then it must be true!!

As said already, unless the VTR was fooked or not trying then a 1.1 could not keep up with it

    That's the short of it...
  24. #24
Yep! a 1.1 could be "ragging it" it in 2nd. I'll pull in 4th. Thats the long short of it.
  25. #25
A 1.1 might be quicker than a VTR if you pushed it off a cliff
  26. #26
They arnt meant to be fast iirc.
  27. #27
    was the 1.1 CBR?

I fitted a 4-1 and straight through exhaust to my 1.1 along with some sort of induction kit and a remap it should be not bad out of a 1.1. Its never going to beat vtr's but off the line these 1.1's are pretty quick for what they are, let him have his moment and let him think he beat it

Lol, my old 1.1 was nearly as fast as my slightley modded 1.6 vtr. remember my 1.1 was stripped. 1 seat. thats all. with all breather mods done. cept 4 branch. I kept with a 1.6 vtr up the a500. I wouldent lie about it. Obv it wouldent keep with my cammed vtr now cuz that leaves vts's
