Clutch cable gone 3 times within a month - need help!

    Hey,

I bought myself a 2000 Saxo VTR 8 valve, MK2, literally 9 hours ago, and the clutch cable has gone Im not sure if it snapped, or came loose maybe? It happened as i went over a speed bump and depressed the clutch at same time.

Anyway, my main concern is this being the 3rd time within a month. I should have stayed clear of the car, but got that buzzed about getting a VTR i didn't think. I put it down to the 1st time not being done properly and resulting in it needing replaced 2nd time. But a 3rd time?

Seriously sickened as I've only the had the car 9 hours, and I f**king love it already!! lol

    Please help.

Just replace it with a fresh one. Previous guy might have done it all wrong.

9 hours lol............ Be prepared for a while !

Check if its snapped or how its came loose.. Check the two bolts that hold the cable to the fork of the gearbox

And as says above replace the full cable if its snapped.. Heard its a bit fiddly but can be done by yourself

Motor factors or try euro car parts ?

    Good Luck man

Thanks guys, not too mechanically minded myself so have to wait until Monday to get her looked at. Just hoping its down to shit mechanics as apposed to being linked to something more serious. (took last mechanic 4.5 hrs to fit the cable apparently)

But yeah, its bit of a shitter for it to break down after 9 hours, but i can tell u, the first 8hrs 59mins were pure bliss

There only good when there working properly these cars, and that isn't very often haha. Maybe they put the clutch cable far to tight causing it 2 snap. Good luck anyway buddy.

Well got her left in this morning and got a call this afternoon to say the clutch was f**cked and quoted £250 + VAT.

I simply asked, how is it f**cked? And he spun me off with some bullsh*t. So i left it at "well ill have to phone u back on this"....45mins later I get another call...."cars sorted, £15 plus VAT, ready to go"

So aye, cars sorted. Apparently cable was a bit too long, whatever it was, its secured now with a washer and works sweet!

    cheers for help

a cable cant really be too long, unless it was adjusted properly or something. Owell at least its sorted!

repeated clutch cable snapping is a symptom of clutch getting tired, the clutch gets harder and harder until it over strains the cable.

The cable hadn't snapped, it had came loose or something along those lines. Pretty much the guy who fitted it last week was lazy. Took him 4.5 hrs to sort it after quoting £30, obviously didn't know what he was doing and was happy to wash his hands of it!

4.5 hours, hahaha he'd be joining the ranks of the unemployed in a very short space of time with me. I'd have wanted him to have done the clutch, clutch cable and a cam belt in that time lol

lol needless to say, my saxo will not be abused by him again.
