Smoked Rear Lights Question

  1. #1
If I were to apply 1 coat/ a thin layer of tinting spray to my rear lights, would it pass an mot/ look any good?

Aslong as the brake lights still shine red and the the indicators still shine orange and the reverse lights shine White, it'll pass mot.

Mine are daaaark and still passed. I'm sure you can buy brighter bulbs anyway so no need to worry, but my saxo and my old corsa had black tail lights and still passed

Anything that obscure, changes the colour or reduces the light output of your indicators, position lights, brake lights, rear fog light, reverse lamp or reflectors and it is a fail on a properly done MOT. So yes it will fail a properly done MOT.

Though it is often hard for a MOT tester to tell if the light is altered or not. In so many testers will pass a vehicle as long as it looks like it could be standard. Even if this happens the police could still pull you and find fault with them. But then again the Police often also work on that if it does look like it could be standard many are not so worried.

The other thing is that if you do decide to tint them you absolutely must inform your insurance company that have done so.
