New gearbox. Crunch in 2nd??

  1. #1
Just fitted a GTI gearbox to my VTR (on my own will be doing a how to) and noticed that there is a crunch sound in 2nd and only 2nd. The guys i got it from said it was quiet with no cruches so I wonder if the linkages need adjusting?

Also it's only if I'm going at speed, if I'm going slower it doesn't happen.

Any suggestions or input is appreciated

worth a try mate if you have adjustable linkages i posted a link last week with the length of the std ones.

also could be worth checking the selector to see if there is play in the roll pin this is what caused mine to crunch only 80p from citroen.

Alot of guys say anything just to sell things mate.. Had this exact same thing with a vts box.. *Honestly its perfect no crunches or whines*. Fitted and it whines lol

So chances are its the box or a linkage

Check all your linkages are straight and none have any bends in them also

How did you find the gearbox change ? Did you change the clutch whilst you had it off ?

exactly what happened to me. I asked the seller to confirm 2/3 times whether the box was all good but when it came to fitting my 1st synchro was non existent. Only good thing is no one really uses 1st unless stationary..

cud be the baulk rings are wearin out in the gear box so where you are goin at high speed its not slowing the shaft down enough so your gonna get a crunching noise!

Thought it may be something like that cos ii jus went for a drive and if I "double clutch" It doesn't make the crunch :'(
