Is the cat under the car or in the mani and do you want to de-cat the car?
Early MK2 btw so likely to be under the car.

Ok, have a quick look and see where your cat is. Chances are it's underneath but need to be sure. If it's underneath then you can get the cat back system or the manifold back system depending if you want to keep your cat or not

what does the cat do? xD i feel so noobish!!!

Reduces emmisions and is a legal requirement for cars post 1992. Technicaly you can't pass an mot without one (obv since it's illegal) but you can quite easily get yourself a "friendly" tester.

good job my dad does my MOT!! xD

thanks guys very much appreciated! Thumbs up for all!!!
  14. #14
It's not actually a requirement for an mot, if emssions are within the legal limits then you'll pass whether you have a cat in or not. It's just that a lot of the time emissions will increase a lot with the cat removed
  15. #15
    will it make it quieter?
  16. #16
If you take the cat out the car will be louder maybe crack and bang as well
  17. #17
Yes, leem is right but I have never heard of a car passing emissions without a cat.
If your dad does your MOT couldn't you have asked him all the questions lol?

When I've finished my conversion with a fresh built engine I'm going to run the car on the gas analyser and see if it would pass an mot. The theory is a well looked after engine should be ok without a cat; look toasted the bottom if this page http://www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk/exhau...s/info_10.html

no becasue you still have the cat and silencer in the center pipe which will make it quieter and it wont pop or bang i wouldn't have thought

i have done it the other way round fitted a manifold back supersprint with a standard 1.1 back box (as my exhaust recess is smoothed over) and i love this sound ive had many people say how nice it sounds, quiet(ish) on idle but still sounds nice and raspy and ive had a couple little flames come out when ive accidentally missed a gear lol

also my mates car has passed an mot with no cat BUT i would never personally take a car to an mot without one lol

its not a massive deal to just fit the standard exhaust back on for mot, in reality its only 2 bolts/3 rubbers
