under arch liners

how important are these? front under arch liners

i took mines off few mnths ago and never replaced them. tried to today but theyre a bit of a bitch to get back on, esp when you've lost all the screws

what do they protect and is it a prob if theyre missing?

    cheers

Their meant to stop stones/crap from hammering away at your metal which in turn will lead to rust.Personally I think their a waste of time I took front & rear 1`s off recently to do a job & found corrosion behind them where they`d trapped moisture. So I had to treat the rust & underseal the metal. If you leave them off make sure you undersal the metal & remove the underseal thats peeling off.

havent had any in my front arches for over 2 years just a lot of road shit/mud/dirt gets up behind the arch and up the leading edge of the door.

can make the door check strap make an awful CRACK but some WD40 solves it in seconds.

Sorry to hijack the thread your best off using spray grease as wd40 dries out.

defo not a waste of time
my 10 year old westie had them on and we removed them few months back and the car is spotless in the arches, no rust whatsoever, its so so clean
compared to my 10 year old vtr that had no arches that had to have a lot of welding as the boot floor was practically hanging off

mine just accumulates a load of crap. also makes it alot easier to get the bumper off (4 bolts!)

Thats why I said if you do remove the liners then make sure the arches are treated properly with underseal so you don`t leave exposed metal.

Agreed, imo there quite important, they dont really trap moisture they protect the inner wings. Saw a 106 completly fooked last week because the arch liners had been removed for so long, stones chip away at the underseal and paint allowing rust to grow. can also get to the chassis legs. Not so bad if you re-seal all of the metal if you remove them but still there quite important

yep or spray grease as said below.

do the hinges and the check strap and a bit in the hole where the check strap enters the door, just squirt all the crap off with the door fully open then swing it closed then opena couple of times jobs a goodun.

gotta be jetwash the gap, then grease it. wouldn't want a mix of mud and grease

might actually put them back on 2moro then guys!

dont want the arches fallin off, cause I must say when i removed them, it was spotless underneath, so they must have been working!
