help dead Saxo

  1. #1
I have a saxo 1.4 west coast on a T reg(99). A couple of months ago it was fine it started without any probelms however it began to struggle starting needing the accelorator pedal holding halfway down for it to start. It then began to cut out when I was in traffic when the engine was cold. I did some work this weekend and fitted new wheelbearings ball joints etc and the car just wont start. The battery is only six months old and is holding plenty charge. the car cranks over but just wont fire up. The immobiliser light goes out as it should. Has anyone else had a similar problem as im struggling to find an auto electrician who will call due to where I live. Has anyone bought a fault code reader compatible with the saxo thats fairly cheap. Any help would be appreciated!

    Starter motor ?

Does it bump start no problems ?

I bought a fault reader for 20 quid or so.. One of the best buys ive had used it on many cars (obd2) really basic but does its job

Where abouts you from? if you were local i would have a look (Ayrshire)

Does it make like a tick/click noise when trying to fire it up?

Does it sound like its down on compression?. Take the spark plugs out and see if they have oil on them, if they have its either broken rings, blown head gasket or could be a dodgey valve.
Could also possibly be the lamba sensor but it would probably still start if it was, just run rough and stall. The knock sensor on the crank could also stop it getting spark if it was knackered, and the coil pack would be the same story.
