Getting a new flywheel :)

  1. #1
Well as some of you may know starting my car up is slightly annoying as it makes a hugh squeak when it starts up so changed the starter motor and still squeaked and sometimes it would just spin and not connect with the flywheel so decided to get a new fly wheel, I also get a little rattle noise like the release bearing but i belive its a fairly new clutch. But as it only make the rattle noise when the clutch it up its making me think it is the clutch but is there any chance it could be the fly wheel? or is it worth telling the garage to get a release bearing fitted aswell?

i have that rattle.. dip the clutch and its goes?.. also if you leave the car running for a while it goes a little quiter then noticable again..

Ye, Dip the clutch and it goes but when let it come back up it rattles again. Its not that loud so if i dont pay attention i dont hear it but when i pay attention to it i can hear it

Sounds like a bit of a grinding noise aswell?, Well thats what im trying to find out hoping it could have somthing to do with the flywheel but just want to find out off the experts

    (Y) keep an eye on this then.. it sounds like a clanging rattly noise.. only thing i can compare it to.. is the sound of a black cab or an old diesel lol

it will be the clutch release bearing.

Do you know how much they are? and hard to replace?

Not sure mate im just going to get my garage to do it

can you hear it rattle when driving along?
  11. #11
definately the clutch release bearing if it goes when you dip the clutch. to get to it its the same procedure as changing the clutch. seeing as your there you might aswell change the clutch for the sake of 50 quid

a clutch change should cost about 200-250 which should include the clutch release bearing being changed as they are made out of cheese

it could be release bearing, or it could be the input shaft bearing in the gearbox.

It only happens when the clutch is up which is making me think it is the release bearing, But not sure

I had the same symptoms on one of my boxes and it was the input shaft. Very faint rattle in neutral, put pressure on the clutch and it stops? At first I thought it was the release bearing but then it started making some really funky noises, took the box off and the release bearing was fine but the input shaft had loads of play

Well i have a 1.1 box in mine, could the power of the engine make that sort of thing loose? the guy i bought the car off did say it was a fairly new clutch aswell...

Saxo boxes can suffer if you're rough with them. I killed 2 in 12 months but I wasn't very sympathetic with them lol

I dont batter it about that much only a couple of times , What would you say it is?

Could be either. More likely to be the release bearing but there's a chance it's the input bearing. Can't say without taking the box off though
