Performance Exhausts - Worth it ???

  1. #1
    Hi,

Unfortunately my exhaust has broken for the 3rd time in about 18 months. Is it worth getting a Stainless System, do they make any much difference in performance? Any recommendations or suggestions welcome. Thanks.

    How has it broke?

Instead of keep forking out for new exhaust it may be worth finding out the root cause of why it keeps breaking

    Yes

    > They last longer
    > Sound better
    > Give you a better baseline if you want to add further modifications down the line
    > Look better
    > Even help you go a little bit better

    Definitely worth it my friend

wouldn't be called performance if they didnt make a difference! and all of the benefits james put above!

I agree with the first post. find out what the problem is!
You could go spend 200 on a new system then for the same to happen to that!

uprate your lower engine mount at the same time.

what do you mean by broken?
    Snapped off? or what... lol

Cheers for the posts. Well the latest cause is prob due to the garage putting new handbrake cables on? I think - now may be wrong on this one - They poss have had to move the exhaust a little so, un-done the front exhaust mounting bolt. And, guess what? Not put it back or re tightend it. Basically the exhaust has broken from the base of the Cat and is being currently being held on by the lambda sensor wire, of all thinks. See there is a use for the post cat sensor lol. Either that or the front exhaust mounting bolt has worked its way loose???? Prev reasons the exhaust was the original and on its way out.

Kam, whats the deal with uprating the engine mount, if you could give me some more info that would be great.

standard exhausts will rust anyway so can end up quite weak, but if all the mounts are functioning then I will hazard a guess that the engine mounts are allowing excessive movement. You say there is no centre mount though which would put more stress on the heavy standard parts.

Hi, cheers for that. Ye would not mind too much but the Cat + front pipe are only about 18mths old. The mount that was unbolted was the part that screws to the gearbox or engine, just before the join to the mid section. Do Powerflex do a engine mount kit?

Mine isn't even attached to the gearbox anymore, still totally fine though :s

BTW - Got the cat welded for 25 quid... Bargain. However typically the EML has come on. Great going round in circles, see my prev thread on this.... lol must have blown the cat to bits driving the car.
