Correct Rallye (s2) vs vtr (90bhp) spec

  1. #1
Did a search but can't find

Just want to know the differences in engines between the Rallye (s2) vs vtr (90bhp)

    BHP -
    Torque -
    Cam -
    etc. anymore info worth knowing.

Need to know because want to see if it would be worth placing an S2 lump into my vtr and what gains I would see

Also if I did stick an S2 in it would be running with a s1 rallye inlet and all breathing mods including 4-2-1 manifold, decatted piper exhaust system, green cottoned K & N gen II..

    Cheers

Edit: The S2 lump would be put in along with its ECU, just in case it makes any difference

exactly the same engine aren't they?

plus you need to make sure the port spacing is right on the head for the inlet

The Rallye is fitted with a high performance TU5J2 1587cc 8v engine that is a slightly more tuned version of the earlier 106 1.6 XSi engine also fitted to some Peugeot 306 models. This engine is unique to the Rallye and is not fitted to any other Peugeot model. It produces 103bhp at 6200rpm and gives 97lbs/ft of torque at 3500rpm.

It provides immense power and effective torque up to 7,000 rpm - giving endless acceleration through the gears. Although the S2 engine is not as high revving as the one used in the S1 Rallye, it is much more flexible and produces raw performance characteristics that none of its rivals can match. A high power to weight ratio of 119bhp/tonne helps give a top speed of 121mph, 8.5 sec 0-60mph, and fantastic mid range

is it really worth it for an extra 13 brake (5 over the mk2)

you could get that with a cam couldn't you?

The s1 and s2 rallye engines both use the same port spacings as the early VTR btw

Yer but camming can be expensive with the cam costing roughly £150 with the vernier pulley at roughly £90 and then you got fit it all. Whereas I can get the engine for £150

and it would be an extra 13bhp because I have the 90bhp vtr (early mk2)

    ohh gotcha.

so its basically a fettled 1.6 engine, i know the s1's were 100bhp

the rallye engines are similar to the very early black top VTR engines, mechanical tappets over the hydraulic ones. Slightly wilder cam gave the power and the better inlet on the s1.

so would it be worth the extra 13 bhp + the extra gains from having the wilder cams with the s1 inlet? anyone got the figures
