homemade decat

  1. #1
hello chaps ive got a home made decat lying around and was wondering if it would work on my saxo?
its mild steel and the bore measures 2 and a half inches would it be as good as a proffesionally made 1?

    cheers all

i know lol found it in the shed so fort i mite put it to use seems alrite just needs 2 flanges welding to it

a decat is just a straight bit of pipe that is shaped to fit in the gap

i know mate im just wondering if this is eny good compared to a sportex or janspeed cus of the cheap welds and what not

Cheap welds? As long as there is no holes in them they're fine, it's not as if they have to hold any weight

    That really won't fit
  8. #8
there all solid so no air leaks, and why wont it fit if i weld flange plates on to marry it up to downpipe and centre section?
  9. #9
Because it's too big just buy a proper pipe :l
  10. #10
yeah but the centre bore is also 2 and a half inches?

A proper one designed for a saxo will more likely do the job better, if the diameter of the pipe is too big it may decrease performance, this is because of the time it will take the gases to fill the extra area of pipe or something.

Basically a loss of back pressure is possible.

yeah i will eventually be vts'ing it so im keepin costs down for now, i would imagine its roughly the same diameter as my sportex centre section?

Some engine's work better with no exhausts at all, but others just loose all power, The old beetle Engines liked having no exhausts, they was like an air pump lol.

2.5" when the rest is 2.25 will possibly drain power, and it's not shaped properly

yeah theres very little difference in dimensions 2 my centre section and its not bulged internally its the same size end 2 end so with abit of luck it'll do for a month or 2
