how easy is it to swap an axle?
is it just bolt off/bolt on?

4 bolts under the rear seat drops the axel from the car body, then its got a handbrake cable to each drum/caliper and a brake line to each drum/caliper. quite easy as far as some jobs go but awkward

Yeah its a common issue, also have a 52plate vtr. had mine replaced about 2 year ago, bought a nice recon for £350 bit steep really, but i got 36months warranty with it so its not all bad.

You should look around mate i went a car breaker in birmingham and got a rear axle for £40 and fitted it in august and it is still fine now.

I had to do this on my 106. me and a mate took a weekend to do it on the deck. Pretty good going as we're both girls and most of it was rusted up. I picked a rear beam up at my local scrappy for £35!
