Cold air feed to standard VTS airbox

  1. #1
Had a bit of a search but nothing is jumping out at me.. Just wondered what people have done to get a cold air feed in to the standard airbox? Currently running a completely standard airbox with a Green Panel filter inside as I know this has got just as good results as aftermarket induction kits..

Pics or suggestions would be great.. I like the OEM look and kinda want to keep the standard airbox parts, just after cold air feed suggestions really..

Engine bay pic, all I can find at the minute.. can get a better one if needed...

    Cheers.

I would like to see some recommendations for good air feeds as well tbh.

Also can you tell me what that plastic box is that sits infront of the box which the filter sits in? I know it's part of the air feed system but what purpose does it actually serve?

You tell me mate lol, i'm not sure i've just kept it standard! Can anyone enlighten us?!

    Anyone got any pics/suggestions?

So no-one has fed a cold air feed to the standard airbox?!

The box infront is the resonator box. I'd remove the resonator and run a length of hose from the scoop on the slam panel to the bottom of the airbox.

Finally lol. What sort of ducting would you recommend? I'm guessing not the rippled stuff that distorts air flow?

So the resonator box doesn't need to be there?

no it is only really there to reduce induction noise

Ah right I never realised that!

Does anyone have any cold air feed pics ?

the smoother the better but playing with alloy bends and piping you might as well buy a bmc or something. best bet is to get a flexi cold air feed (the ones with the anodised trumpets on each end) fuck the resonator off take one trumpet off the end of the flexi. place the flexi upto the airbox and mark the circumfrance. cut it out, push the flexi through and reconnect the trumpet on the inside and silicone the trumpet for an airtight seal. then fit the other end to the front of the car for some cold air

Strip everything off apart from the inlet elbow and air box its self and attach a length of piping directly to the air box going to the original intake piece on the slam panel, totally de-restricts air flow, a good mod to do to retain a standard air box set up! I have a meter or so spare in silver if you are interested?

pretty much what the guys have said above. i got the pipercross cold air feed comes with two trumpets is well worth it.

Ahh, i'm not so sure now. I don't want to just run a random tube to the slam panel as I think it will look crap. I kinda wanted to keep the standard set up though as I think it looks good and its been proven to get good gains with a panel filter. Anyone got any pics of cold air feed to the standard airbox to persuade me to do it?

im going to run, flex pipe to where my fog used to be and get streamline to make a duct, that if it doesnt sell before then, but doubt it will

I've heard about this and i'm not runing fogs so would make sense, but what about risk of water?

mine on my 1.1, yes it was the best 1.1 on the site FACT.

never had a single problem with it mate.. looks the tits aswell

who needs air filters? everyone knows they block up the air flow.
what i did is just take all the filter out and run a drain pipe through with an elbow at the top to go on the throttle body

Jokes lol I like my engine

I put my feed (bit of flexi pipe) over the top of the pas pipe down the side of the raadiator

Was pretty well hidden so looked tidy and worked well

I've found a pipe at work that fits, i've moved it so it doesn't sit so close to the radiator.

I've also cut out the breather pipe inside the box which sits right in the airflow, K&N panel going in tomorrow.
Midrange FEELS better(nothing magical) but there's no kick at 5000rpm like when the resinator pipework is fitted.

2nd pic should be this one
Like I said above it doesn't sit that close to the radiator when I fettled it after the pic.
